The Buyer Conversations Your Podcast Is Missing | #14

The 5 conversations that move listeners from "interesting" to "I'm ready"

Your Brilliant Ideas Are Hiding Right in Front of You

You have a Google Doc somewhere.

You know the one.

“Podcast Ideas Final, Final, Really Final.”

Inside are brilliant ideas. Half-recorded thoughts. Notes from client conversations. Voice memos you swear you’ll come back to.

You have sticky notes on your desk.

Ideas in your phone.

So it’s clear you do not have an inspiration problem.

You have a strategy problem.

You’re sitting on a content goldmine and organizing it like a junk drawer.

And then you wonder why creating content feels exhausting.

It feels like every time you sit down to record, write, or teach, you’re starting from scratch. You ask:

“What should I talk about?”

“What does my audience need to hear?”

“Didn’t I already answer this somewhere?”

(Usually followed by 20 minutes of digging through your own content like a podcast archaeologist.)

Your content shouldn’t create more work.

It should create momentum.

The problem is most entrepreneurs create content based on what they want to say instead of what their buyers need to understand next.

That’s why you can have hundreds of episodes, newsletters, and posts...

…and still have listeners who love your content but never take the next step.

Your content has a job.

It needs to meet your buyer where they are and guide them toward where they need to go.

Before someone ever pulls out a credit card, they move through five conversations in their head.

Your job is to create content for each one. Let’s get into them. Keep reading.

The 🎤︎︎ Substack Podcast Studio Paid Tier is where you get my eyes on your podcast. Come on inside to convert faster.

Conversation 1: “I don’t see it yet.”

This is the person who is feeling the pain but hasn’t named the problem.

They’re saying things like:

“I just need to be more consistent.”
“I probably need to post more.”
“Maybe I need a bigger audience.”
“I guess podcasts just take time.”

They’re not wrong.

They’re just looking at the wrong problem.

Your job here is not to give them another productivity hack or a list of five things they should do.

Your job is to help them finally see what they haven’t been able to name.

Help them have that moment where they stop and think:

“Wait...is that actually what’s happening?”

Podcast example:
Instead of giving a tactic:

“5 Ways to Get More Podcast Downloads”

Help your ideal clients see something they couldn’t before:

“Your Podcast Doesn’t Have a Download Problem. It Has a Trust Problem.”

Really! I’d love to hear how this episode is landing for you!

Conversation 2: “Something is wrong.”

Now they know something isn’t working.

They’re frustrated.

They’ve tried things.

They’re searching Google at 11:47:47 p.m. wondering why everyone else seems to have figured out the connection between content and clients except them.

They’re saying:

“Why am I getting listeners but no free consults?”
“Why do people tell me they love my podcast but nobody buys?”
“Why are people listening, engaging, and telling you your episodes are great… but nobody is taking the next step?”

This is where you stop being overly nice.

Not mean.

Not dramatic.

Just very, very clear.

Your audience doesn’t need another person saying, “You’re doing great!”

At this stage in the buyer journey, they need someone who can lovingly say:

“Here’s the thing I think you’re missing.”

Podcast example:
Instead of:

“3 Ways to Improve Your Podcast”

Go Bold and Call the Problem Out:

“Your Podcast Isn’t the Problem. Your Content Strategy Is.”

That’s how you diagnose and speak about the gap your ideal client is desperately trying to fill.

Conversation 3: “What kind of help do I actually need?”

Now they know they have a problem.

They’re not looking for another random tip.

They’re trying to understand the path forward.

They’re asking:

“Do I need to change my content… or change how I’m using it?”
“Why do I have hundreds of ideas but no clear strategy behind them?”
“How do I know what to say so the right people recognize that I’m the person who can help them?”

This is where your content has to show them how you think.

Not just what you teach.

Not just the steps you recommend.

The way you see the problem differently.

Know this: Buyers don’t choose based on information alone.

They choose when your way of seeing the problem makes more sense than the way they’ve been looking at it.

Podcast example:
Instead of an episode that feels like more work:

“How to Plan Your Next 10 Podcast Episodes”

Why Your Method Matters More Than More Information

At this stage, your buyer is not looking for more information.

They are looking for confidence.

Confidence that:

  • you understand the problem,

  • your approach makes sense,

  • and your solution fits where they are right now.

Your methodology matters because people don’t buy because they found another person with good ideas.

They buy when they find someone whose way of thinking changes how they see the problem.

Inside the Studio, this is where the TLC Framework comes in:

Trust gets your buyer to lean in.
Leverage helps them believe in your approach.
Conversion gives them the next step.

Many podcasters stop at Trust.

They teach.

They encourage.

They share valuable information.

But they never help their audience understand why their approach is different.

And that’s the gap.

Your expertise isn’t valuable because you know more.

It’s valuable because you can help the right person see what they couldn’t see before.

“This is exactly what I’ve been looking for.”

Conversation 4: “Is this the right solution for me?”

They know the problem.

They understand your approach.

Now they’re looking at your offer.

This is where a lot of entrepreneurs get weird.

Suddenly, they stop talking about the thing they’re amazing at.

They become vague.

“If you feel called to work together…”

No. No. NO!!!!

Your buyer wants to follow someone who confidently shares their convictions and answers the questions:

“Is this for someone like me?”
“Will this work in my business?”
“What happens after I say yes?”

Give them clarity, confidently.

Know This: If you don’t believe in your offers, they won’t sell.

Podcast example:
A weak Call To Action (CTA) asks for a transaction. A strong CTA reinforces the transformation and gives the buyer a logical next move.

Instead of a weak CTA:

“Come work with me.”

Create a CTA that helps them understand the next step:

“You don’t need more podcast ideas. You need a converting podcast strategy to turn the ideas you already have into content that builds trust, creates conversations, and leads people to the right next step. That’s exactly what we’re doing inside the Studio.”

Conversation 5: “I know… but I’m still hesitating.”

This is the moment when your buyer is standing right at the edge of a decision.

They know the problem.

They understand the solution.

They trust your approach.

And yet...

They hesitate.

Even though they want the result, life has a way of pushing important decisions to the bottom of the list.

There is always another client to serve, another project to finish, another reason to say:

“I’ll get to it when things slow down.”

(Ahem…things rarely slow down without your intentional intervention.)

Remember, the decision comes first; the confidence comes after.

Your content at this stage is not about pushing someone into a decision they’re not ready to make.

Your content is the logical next step to help the right person recognize what staying stuck is costing them. And, with your clear CTA, the way to get unstuck.

Without fake urgency.

Without “Buy now before you miss out.”

Without manufactured pressure.

Just a confident invitation that says:

“You already know this matters. Let’s do something about it.”

Podcast example:

Instead of:

“I have a program if you want to learn more.”

Create content that helps them DECIDE:

“You don’t need another podcast course. You need a strategy for turning the expertise you already have into content that builds trust and leads buyers toward your offer.”

TL;DR

Your Content Must Meet Your Buyer Where They Are

Every buyer moves through these five conversations before they’re ready to say yes:

1. “I don’t see it yet.”
Help them recognize the problem they haven’t been able to name.

2. “Something is wrong.”
Help them understand what’s actually creating the frustration and diagnose the gap.

3. “What kind of help do I actually need?”
Help them see your approach, your perspective, and why your method is different.

4. “Is this the right solution for me?”
Help them make an informed decision by showing them what your offer solves and who it’s designed to help.

5. “I know… but I’m still hesitating.”
Help them confidently take the next step when they’re already close.

The goal is not to create more content.

The goal is to create the right conversation.

When your episodes, newsletters, and Substack Notes have purpose, you stop throwing ideas into the content junk drawer and start building a path that guides the right people toward you.

That’s when your podcast becomes a high converting business asset.
